Perhaps the most intriguing wine in the Cheron lineup, Les Barreaux comes from a site surrounded by some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Itself classified as "village", the vineyard sits directly above the Grand Cru Richebourg and is surrounded by the nearly Grand Cru quality 1er Crus, Cros Parentoux and Aux Brulees. Cheron's neighbors include many of the most famed producers in Burgundy including Meo-Camuzet, E. Rouget, Leroy and DRC. The soil is tremendously rocky, making the vines struggle to take root. Exposure is slightly more Northern than its neighbors, possibly explaining its status as a village lieu-dit. The vines are over 50 years old. Each block is manually harvested and sorted twice, once in the vineyard and once in the winery.
