La Domaine Bruno Clair, Savigny-les-Beaune, Burgundy, France 2014
One of the all-time great names in Burgundy is that of Domaine Clair-Dau, which was founded in Marsannay in 1919 by Joseph Clair. La Dominode is part of the premier cru vineyard called “Les Hauts Jarrons,” the vines of which were planted in 1902. Unusual for the Côte de Beaune, this is a rich and powerful wine, thanks to the low yields and beautiful maturity of the vines. There are, naturally, annual variations according to the vintage and the weather, but the variations are fewer than in other vineyards. The color is always deep, tannins are full and rich. This is a wine that demands a few years of ageing, often more than ten years, before it is ready to be enjoyed.
